Happy New Year from Angry Birds!
You may not know it, but yesterday was the last day of the year. That’s right, we kissed the year of the horse goodbye, and now, it’s time to welcome in the year of the goat! Ba-a-a-a-a!
Of course I’m talking about Chinese New Year! Chinese New Year is celebrated every year (duh) according to the Chinese calendar. Unlike the gregorian calendar that most are familiar with, the Chinese calendar’s months follow the phases of the moon closely. Months always begin on the dark moon, and last for the full phase of the moon – which is about 29 or 30 days. Since these lunar months don’t line up with the gregorian months exactly, the year will end at a slightly different time. Hence, celebrating New Year in February. The Chinese Calendar is mostly used for holidays and stuff. In China (obvs).
Aaaaanyway, Chinese New Year is the BIGGEST celebration in the Chinese calendar – spanning several days starting on New Year’s Eve (Chinese New Year’s Eve, just to be clear). Chinese New Year festivities include a reunion dinner with family (yum!), fireworks (yay!), cleaning (wut?), and cool decorations like this papercut.
Even if you’re not of the Chinese cultureway, we certainly won’t stop you from celebrating. On the contrary, the Angry Birds are getting in on the festivities as well!
Case in point – there’s a Chinese New Year island invasion starting in Angry Birds Epic! Expect plenty of lanterns, red and gold, costumed piggy opponents, and fireworks! The event is open for a limited time so enter the fray while you can!
Not only that, but there’s a new Chinese New Year kart in AB Go!! It’s the Year of the Goat so why not a Goat Kart!? It’s yours for 8 coins in the shop. Boom.
There’s new Chinese New Year stuff in AB Stella as well! In addition to the aforementioned festivities, it’s a Chinese New Year tradition to give gifts in red envelopes. Stella and co. were all set to do just that – only those thieving piggies have taken their gifts! Play a special Chinese New Year level every day in Angry Birds Stella to reclaim the envelopes from the pigs and earn gold coins! This one’s an iOS exclusive. Sorry Androidians – but we’ve got good stuff for you too!
Last, but certainly not least, play an exclusive Chinese New Year Pig Day level in Angry Birds Seasons! Whew!
If you’re in need of even more Chinese New Year fun, the Apple App Store’s got you covered. LOADS of Chinese new year exclusives going down so check it out here!
