Monday Mailbag – Keep the Great Plains Great!

A fan writes to us with an incredible (and very detailed, and well illustrated) idea for an update to Angry Birds Seasons. There’s a lot going on here so let’s just jump right in.

Luke, a resident of Oklahoma, is worried about the the prairie lands in the United States. At one time, the prairie stretched the entire length of Canada and the US, but now it is confined to small patches dotted along central US and Canada (see figure 2 below). In fact, only about 1% of tallgrass prairie remains in the US. Yikes!

So what do we do about it? Well, maybe a prairie-themed episode would be just what we need to let people know that the prairie land is in danger! Mayhaps it is, Luke. Mayhaps it is. Here’s Luke’s plan:

The name of the proposed episode is Prairie Hogs! Pig puns? Hey, that’s my job, Luke ;), but well done! The plan for Prairie Hogs includes scenic backgrounds, buffalo (tricky prairie dog tunnels, and a new bird called Luke (I see what you did there, Luke) that can slice through obstacles with it’s scissor tail! (see fig. 1 for all of this stuff)

We’re all about some wildlife conservation over here at Angry Birds HQ. We’ve partnered with WWF (not the wrestlers), United for Wildlife, and BirdLife International in the past to help raise awareness for threatened species (see here, and here). Why not raise awareness for the disappearing prairie as well? Can’t say anything for sure, but it’s certainly a worthy cause. Thanks Luke, great work!
